MI Welcome Centers Will Resume Tourist Information Services This Weekend

Following extended closures due to the coronavirus pandemic, you can once again make more than just a pit stop at Michigan’s Welcome Centers as they will resume tourist information services just in time for the Memorial Day weekend ahead.

After taking proactive steps to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, the Michigan Department of Transportation closed the information lobbies at all 14 of the state’s Welcome Centers in March of 2020, and that aspect of the Welcome Centers has remained shuttered ever since.

Raipur airport handled transportation of 530 oxygen cylinders between April 9 and May 17: AAI

New Delhi, May 24 (PTI) The Raipur airport has handled the transportation of 530 oxygen cylinders by the Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft between April 9 and May 17, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) said on Monday.

India has been badly hit by the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic and hospitals in several states have been facing shortage of oxygen, beds, drugs, vaccines and equipment.

Hotel Okura counts on post-virus travel boom with Kyoto annex

TOKYO — Hotel Okura will open the first new Japanese location of its namesake brand in 20 years to prepare for a tourism rebound after COVID-19 vaccines reach more people worldwide.

The facility, which will serve as an annex to the existing Kyoto Hotel Okura, is slated to begin operations in January 2022. It will be developed by Mitsubishi Estate.

A standard room will cover about 40 sq. meters and cost around 40,000 to 50,000 yen ($365 to $455) per night. The annex will stand four stories tall and include 60 guest rooms but no event venues.

Ridgeland airport expects increased traffic for PGA Tour event

As golf fans prepare to put Congaree Golf Club on their travel itineraries, traffic is expected to increase at Ridgeland Claude-Dean Airport. 

Jasper County officials said they have been getting ready for the Palmetto Championship at Congaree since they were notified in March about the upcoming PGA Tour event. The tournament was scheduled for June 10-13 at the club near Gillisonville after the RBC Canadian Open was canceled because of COVID-19 travel restrictions. 

County administrator Andy Fulghum said in a news release he anticipates an increase in airport activity and the number of visitors.
