Tourism in Yucatan Roars to Life


Yucatan is a bright star for a return to tourism in Mexico. The region, deemed safe for travel by the U.S. State Department is flourishing while continuing to keep health and safety top of mind.

All of the tourism suppliers in the region are certified – hotels, restaurants, transportation providers, archaeological sites and more.


“We have been taking health very seriously and we will continue to do that,” said Yucatan State Tourism Minister Michelle Fridman in a recent interview.

Fridman believes that the state’s adherence to health and safety protocols will continue to bring Americans to the Yucatan.

Amtrak resumes pre-pandemic passenger rail schedule Monday


Amtrak rail passenger service, significantly reduced during the COVID-19 pandemic, will resume full service on Monday.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced last week that the full pre-pandemic schedule will return with trains between Chicago and points south and west in Illinois. The COVID-19 crisis forced service to be cut by half.

Tickets are available for purchase from Amtrak online starting Monday.

Daily, there will be five round-trips between Chicago and St. Louis, two round-trips between Chicago and Quincy and three round-trips between Chicago and Carbondale.

COVID-19: Travel agencies offer more Guam vaccine packages


Local travel agencies are offering more vaccine tour packages to Guam next month to meet strong demand.

Lion Travel, the first travel agency in Taiwan to offer vaccine tours to Guam, said in a statement on Thursday that its five-day, four-night tour packages that departed on July 6, July 10, Wednesday last week and on Sunday, totaling 439 slots, were all sold out.

Another 305 people are booked on a 22-day package scheduled to depart on Thursday, Lion Travel said, adding that about 75 percent of the ticketholders are younger than 50 and many are traveling with children.
