In the midst of the federal election campaign, the Newton Business Improvement Association (NBIA) is advocating levels of government to bring fixed-rail rapid transit to Surrey’s neighbourhood of Newton.

They are calling for rail-based rapid transit down the King George Boulevard from Surrey City Centre to Newton.

“I am convinced that fixed rapid rail will be the catalyst to revitalization and will transform Newton into a connected, and livable community, making the Newton Town Centre more vibrant, accessible, and competitive,” said Philip Aguirre, the executive director of the NBIA.

Handcrafted are behind proposals to give the Shakespeare Inn a new lease of life.

Durham-based charity Handcrafted is behind a proposal to give the Shakespeare Inn, in Gateshead, a new lease of life.

Live weather updates in Centre County as heavy rain arrives

A flood warning has been issued for southwestern Centre County, including State College, through 10:30 p.m. Wednesday as remnants of Hurricane Ida bring heavy rain to the region.

The National Weather Service in State College had issued a flash flood warning earlier in the day.

At 4:40 p.m., radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain falling across the area covered in the flood warning, which also includes south central Clearfield County and Huntingdon County, the National Weather Service’s alert states. Between 3-6 inches of rain have already fallen in the area and rainfall amounts of up to 1 inch
