David Toms beats Dicky Pride in playoff to win inaugural event on PGA Tour Champions


ST. LOUIS – David Toms beat Dicky Pride with a par on the first hole of a playoff Sunday in the PGA Tour Champions’ inaugural Ascension Charity Classic.

Toms hit his approach in the playoff on the par-4 18th to the middle of the green and two-putted from 18 feet. Pride’s approach went to the right into a greenside bunker and he couldn’t get a 16-footer for par to fall.

The 54-year-old Toms scrambled for par on the 18th in regulation after driving left into a fairway bunker. He shot a 5-under 66 to finish at 10-under 203 on Norwood

Top American Grandmasters Leinier Dominguez and Wesley So have advanced to the knockout stage of the last regular-season event of the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour, the online tournament series launched by World Champion Magnus Carlsen and his Play Magnus Group.

Irving TX to host pro golf again with PGA Tour Champions event


Irving is hosting professional golf once again.

The PGA Tour Champions announced that the inaugural ClubCorp Classic will be held at Irving’s Las Colinas Country Club from April 19-24.

“Golf has been one of the things that has been a staple for many, many years,” Irving Mayor Rick Stopfer said. “To have a tournament back in this area is very exciting for our residents and the entire Metroplex. We all win when something like this happens.”

Brash makes strong start at Global Champions Tour event in Stockholm


Britain’s Scott Brash topped the individual standings on the first day of the Global Champions Tour (GCT) event in Stockholm.

Brash was the only rider to complete the course in under 60 seconds at the Olympic Stadium in the Swedish capital city.

Riding on Hello Shelby, Brash finished the round in 59.19 seconds with a clean run.

Swedish riders completed the top three.

Douglas Lindelöw placed second after a completing the course in 1min 0.94sec on his horse Cheldon.

His compatriot Henrik von Eckermann finished 0.19 seconds further back on Glamour Girl to finish third.

Brash wins Global Champions Tour Grand Prix event in Stockholm


Scott Brash triumphed in a jump off at the Global Champions Tour Grand Prix event at the Olympic Stadium in Stockholm.

The British rider featured in a four-way jump-off in the Swedish capital.

Brash, riding on Hello Jefferson, triumphed in 39.81 seconds after producing a clean round.

Edwina Tops-Alexander of Australia placed second in 40.87, with the United States’ Spencer Smith third in 39.58 with four faults.
