The First Look: Palmetto Championship at Congaree

The Palmetto Championship at Congaree is a one-time replacement for the RBC Canadian Open, as lingering concerns tied to the U.S.-Canada border and ongoing COVID-19 challenges made it too difficult to host Canada’s national open for the second year in a row.

This is the third PGA TOUR event contested in South Carolina this season (RBC Heritage and PGA Championship) while the Korn Ferry Tour’s BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation will be hosted in South Carolina the same week as the Palmetto Championship.

Juvic Pagunsan, with only 11 clubs, earns spot in Open Championship

zaphfrans

Juvic Pagunsan, who hails from the Philippines and at age 43, has spent the last decade on the Japan Tour, will step up onto a much bigger stage in July.

Pagunsan earned a spot in the Open Championship at Royal St. George’s in England after winning a tournament using just 11 clubs.

Sam Burns wins Valspar Championship

PALM HARBOR, Fla. – Sam Burns had dreamed of winning on the PGA Tour since he was 10 or 11 years old.

“You’re like, ‘I have this putt to win whatever tournament,’” he said. “I can just remember hitting that putt so many times and you just hope and practice so hard to have that opportunity. And it was just, man, after I had the bunker shot on 18, I just got kind of choked up thinking about that moment and thinking about you wanted to have that opportunity so bad for so long and now you do. So, it

RIDGELAND, S.C. — One of the best golf courses in the country rarely has been played by the best golfers in the world.

That will change in June when Congaree Golf Club will serve as a one-time host of a PGA Tour event moved from Canada because of logistical complications related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the announcement came only recently on March 30, Congaree has been preparing and waiting since its 2017 opening to host a prestige event while collecting prestigious accolades.

The newly named Palmetto Championship at Congaree will bring a field of 156 golfers — including
