DAYTONA BEACH — Amid the unprecedented tourism impact of the coronavirus pandemic worldwide, Volusia County attracted 7.2 million visitors in 2020, a 28% decline from the 10 million recorded for pre-pandemic 2019.

The county’s visitor total, announced at an event to mark National Travel & Tourism Week on Friday at Hard Rock Hotel, is the lowest since 2010, according to Evelyn Fine, president of Mid-Florida Marketing & Research.

Yet, considering the catastrophic downturn in a global travel industry that essentially shut-down for much of the past year, the resilience of the county’s tourism industry was celebrated on Friday.

Dana Young, president and CEO of Visit Florida, speaks to a gathering of Volusia County hospitality industry representatives at an event to mark National Travel & Tourism Week on Friday at Hard Rock Hotel. Seated to her left, Tim Buckley, of the Ocean Center, and Joanne Magley, of Daytona Beach International Airport, listen to her update on Florida tourism.

“We wanted a larger magazine-style format to make it more of a leave-behind, coffee-table kind of piece, and one that could be utilized by more than just visitors and tourists,” said Lee Tasseff, president of Destination Mansfield – Richland County.

The organization recently published the visitor guide. Tasseff said the 80,000 hard copies

Mrs. Compton, perhaps, attended the opening of the historical old Grafton hotel when landlord Horace Ressley opened the doors of this famous old hostelry for inspection of the citizens and their wives of the village on that June day, 1857. She watched the stirring scenes of the campaign of 1860 and doubtless trembled for the safety of her husband, outspoken in his support if President Abraham Lincoln and the politics of the new Republican party, dangerous in this section of Virginia then steeped in the traditions and customs of the South and hen Lincoln was duly selected president of the
