Live weather updates in Centre County as heavy rain arrives

A flood warning has been issued for southwestern Centre County, including State College, through 10:30 p.m. Wednesday as remnants of Hurricane Ida bring heavy rain to the region.

The National Weather Service in State College had issued a flash flood warning earlier in the day.

At 4:40 p.m., radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain falling across the area covered in the flood warning, which also includes south central Clearfield County and Huntingdon County, the National Weather Service’s alert states. Kewanee, July 28, 2021—The Board of Directors of the Henry County Tourism Bureau (HCTB) voted to approve dissolution of the non-profit organization and to cease operations effective immediately. Dissolution of the HCTB is a result of several factors that affected eligibility for the Local Tourism and Convention Bureau (LTCB) grant from the Illinois Office of Tourism that HCTB relied on to fund its operation. BELLEFONTE — Centre County is looking to enhance its mental health crisis services with $3.85 million in state funding.

Business community hopes to ‘show off’ Jasper County during PGA tour event

The Jasper County Chamber of Commerce’s offices are busy throughout the year, but the last month or so they have seen an increase in traffic. 

The increase followed news that the Palmetto Championship at Congaree, a one-time PGA Tour event that was announced this spring, will be played this week at Jasper County’s Congaree Golf Club. 

Malphrus said the chamber’s website and social media traffic also have increased significantly since the tournament was announced in March, as more people have been looking to check out the area.

Local officials optimistic after PGA Tour event in Jasper County

Some of the world’s top golfers left Jasper County’s Congaree Golf Club at the conclusion of the Palmetto Championship on June 13, and local officials said the impressions they left behind were positive. 

“On behalf of the Jasper County Chamber of Commerce, I want to thank Congaree for bringing the Palmetto Championship to Jasper County,” chamber executive director Kendall Malphrus said. “They are an asset to the county and did a wonderful job with the tournament.” 

Congaree was selected to host the one-time PGA Tour event this spring after COVID-19 travel restrictions canceled the annual RBC Canadian Open.
