Vancouver’s Stephen Ames won the Principal Charity Classic on Sunday for his second PGA Tour Champions title, taking advantage of Tim Herron’s final-round collapse.

Seven strokes behind Herron entering the round, Ames shot a 5-under 67 for a one-stroke victory over fellow Canadian Mike Weir.

“Everybody else kind of faltered coming in, unfortunately for those, but fortunate for me,” Ames said. “I had a second Atlanta and I had three other top-10s on top of that, so things were starting to shape up. It’s just a matter of putting things together and obviously getting fortunate, which is what happened this

Repetition throughout the week had Masters primed for the strong final round.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — On Sunday, Cameron Young did exactly what he had done after Thursday, Friday and Saturday: led the AdventHealth Championship at Blue Hills Country Club in Kansas City.

Young closed out a wire-to-wire win Sunday with a 4-under 68. Overall Young shot 19-under and won by two strokes.

“Obviously the last hour or so I probably had a good feeling I was going to win, but it’s hard to get through those last few holes and, you know, hit the shots that I needed to hit,” Young said. “I was a little bit squirrelly down the stretch.”

FORT SMITH, Arkansas — Soggy weather wasn’t enough to stop Brandon McIver from a nail-biting professional golf win over the weekend in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Tied for third entering the final round of the United Way Charity Golf Classic, McIver passed leader Chris Naegel (Wildwood, Missouri) to beat Naegel by one stroke at Hardscrabble Country Club. Naegel was runner-up for the second straight year.

Now for those who don’t know, the NWGA events have attracted solid talent to play in its ranks, including recent LPGA stars like Paula Creamer and Perrine Delacour. But why would Golfweek write an article about a mini tour winner who is a veritable nobody?

Because this mini tour event bestowed its trophy to Hailey Davidson.

Hailey Davidson is a transgender athlete.

First, I decided to read the article
